Everyone Welcome at Rehearsal Dinner Picnic

After the rehearsal on Friday evening all are welcome at a picnic dinner at the wedding site, here

Dinner will start at 6pm and last until about 9pm.

Afterwords join us on the Lake Michigan Beach for a bonfire.  The beach is small this year but we will have to make do.  Just follow the golf course road downhill (west) towards Lake Michigan.  Park near the tennis courts and find your way to the beach.

Getting there and around

We will be married on an old golf course turned preserve two miles north of Frankfort, MI.Click here to view. Traverse City, MI is the closest real city and airport. It is about 45 minutes from the wedding spot.  Grand Rapids is about 2.5 hours away to the south, and has a larger airport that sometimes is less expensive to fly into. Detroit is about 5 hours away,

Housing Options

We have rented several cabins for guests the week prior to the wedding. There is a lot to do in this area of Michigan so we encourage you to come and enjoy for a few days! The cabins are rustic, but inexpensive. They are all furnished. Ask us for the details. There is one with a lake view, one only a short walk from gorgeous dune paradise, and two in the woods between the two lakes.

Also there are campgrounds, the best one is the Platte River Campground, but reservations are taken so you would have to get the non-reserved spots. Also the Betsie River Campground is nice, and there are state forest campgrounds, let us know if you are interested.

And hotels in the town of Frankfort. Click here, here, and here for ideas.
Also we like the Stonewall Inn (ha ha, perfect name) Bed and Breakfast.

Would you like to share a ride?

Looking for way to the wedding from an airport or ferry? Or do you have extra space in your car?

This section of the website will be a place where interested parties can connect via the comment feature.

CLICK on the title ("Would you like to share a ride?") to go to the screen where you can leave a comment as to whether you can share a ride.

Of Course You Should Bring the Kids!

This is a wonderful spot for people of all ages. The swimming is divine in either Crystal Lake or Lake Michigan, the woods and rivers are lovely and perfect for hikes, the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore is nearby with its stunning dunes and sandy beaches, and there will be plenty of other families with children.

There are also ballfields, fishing and general lollygagging to be done. Come one, come all...

Things to do

Things to do are many. Go biking on a bike trail, go swimming in Crystal Lake, body surfing on Lake Michigan. Shopping in town, or walking out on the large Frankfort Pier. Walk to town along the lake Michigan Beach, or go to Sleeping Bear National Park, 45 minutes away.

Why Michigan?

We chose this spot in lower Michigan because it's beautiful: if you haven't been yet, imagine towering black cherry trees, immense sugar maples and little undergrowth under a mature forest. Imagine being on an isthmus between Lake Michigan and Crystal Lake. We chose this heaven-on-Earth because Elizabeth's family has been enjoying summers here for going on four generations. We will be married on an old golf course turned preserve two miles north of Frankfort, MI.Click here to view.

LEGALIZE IT...

We will be married August 14th in Pilgrim, Michigan. The state of Michigan does not recognize same-sex marriages. For the legal portion of our marriage we will be married in either Iowa or Washington, D.C.
